You are getting ready to head out to the gym when your stomach starts to growl, but you don’t know what to eat. Trying to decide what to eat, especially right before a workout, can be daunting. Here are a few snack ideas that will give you all the fuel, and power you’ll need to get through that workout!

Bananas

Bananas are one of the best foods to eat right before your workout. They are high in carbs and potassium, which give your body the fuel and energy it needs to fight through that rigorous workout. Bananas also help with muscle cramps that often happen during a workout, and help replace the sweat lost during a workout.

Yogurt with walnuts and gold honey - traditional greek dessert

Greek Yogurt with nuts

Greek Yogurt is another great pre workout food to have alongside some nuts. Yogurt is packed with proteins that are needed to help repair any muscle tears that could occur during a workout. Greek Yogurt actually has double the protein, less sodium and carbs than regular yogurt. Grab that Greek yogurt and load it up with a variety of nuts, from almonds to walnuts. Walnuts are great because they are high in Omega-3s which help aid in brain and heart function. Almonds also help with heart health and are rich in magnesium.

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is packed with carbs which are essential for your body to have the energy to workout. And oatmeal can be so easy to make as well. It’s recommended to use steel cut oats to make your oatmeal because they are less processed and easier to digest.

Organic Apples and Peanut Butter to Snack on

Apple with Peanut Butter

Any piece of fruit with almond butter is a hearty pre-workout snack that will keep you energized and refueled to trudge through that workout. Apples are particularly easier to cut into pieces to travel with, and are a great fruit to snack on with some peanut butter. Peanut butter is also great because of its high dosage of protein, which is something that is very important for your workout.

Eggs and Toast

Eggs are also a great source of protein, and very easy to make right before your workout. Toast is also a great, in addition to eggs, because it adds a carb to your pre-workout food but isn’t too overwhelming. Again, go with the whole wheat toast because it is better for the body and easier for your body to break down.
