Sydney came into the family courtesy of an adoption day at a Richmond, Virginia supermarket. While all the other dogs that day were busy running around greeting their potential adopters, Sydney was perched quietly in the corner basking in the sun. Naturally, our family was immediately drawn to the calm, oddly colored dog separate from the pack of puppies. Needless to say, we picked him up and took him home!
He has been a wonderful addition to the household for about 9 years now, and he has remained the same level of calmness since the first day we met him. With the exception of when it’s snowing or when you want to play with him. He is always up for running around the yard or going for a hike. One thing he will not do, however, is play fetch. We think he sees himself far above running around exerting energy just to retrieve something a human threw for him.
People often notice and comment on the fact that his eyes are two different colors – one is blue and the other brown. Contrary to what many think, he is not blind in either one! We think that he may have some Australian Shepherd lineage in him, a breed that commonly have different colored eyes. We also think he has lots of Labrador in him, because he lazy and susceptible to gaining lots of weight like one!
