Fashion’s Night Out with an Eco Twist

by Leesa Raab

The third annual Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is  just around the corner, an after-hours shopping event that causes the same excitement in fashionistas that Christmas brings to small children. It’s a whole evening dedicated to fashion parties, where celebrities and designers alike mingle with shoppers. The festivities take place in major cities throughout the world and online, being hosted by all the top department stores, boutiques, designers and salons. In New York and other large cities, the streets are mobbed, looking like a high-fashion version of Halloween as patrons hop from store tostore.

FNO can be a bit overwhelming as you try to determine whether to go to the Gucci party on 5th ave or the Chanel event in Soho. And if you’re anything like us here at Eco18.com you might also be looking to find the stores who offer a little eco-twist on the evening. Well search no more, we’ve compiled a list of our recommended stops.

1. Stella McCartney at SAKS — Stella McCartney has paved the way for high end fashion designers going green. She has an entire eco collection that uses organic and recycled fabrics with low impact dyes. Stella herself will make an appearance at SAKS on FNO from 6:00 – 8:00p.m. Additionally, her store on 14th street will host festivities from 7-11p.m. SAKS 611 Fifth Avenue New York NY 10022; Stella McCartney 429 West 14th Street New York NY 10014

2. L’Occitane en Provance — The beauty line dedicated to all-natural ingredients with a french elegance is hosting several events at their various stores throughout New York. With an event focused on French Chic and Passport to Provance, there will be a chance to learn more about their products and perhaps even get some samples, as well as store discounts. Go to www.loccitane.com for store locations.

3. Angel Street Thrift Shop — As we learned in the article (insert nat article) the practice of buying at thrift and vintage shops certainly offers an eco element. So we were excited to see that Angel Street Thrift Shop will be taking part in the FNO festivities. Shoppers will be able to peruse clothing and furniture while enjoying light fare. Angel Street Thrift Shop, 118 West 17th Street New York NY 10011

4. Vince Smith Hair Experience — Come talk with hair stylist Vince Smith as he hosts FNO at his salon. He’ll be doing complimentary hair consultations and styling, where you can discuss the best natural options for your hair. He’ll also be providing makeup touch ups and airbrush tattoos, which will all be served up with champagne and special music performances. Vince Smith Hair Experience, 300 Rector Place Ground Level New York NY 10280

If you’re not in NYC, check out the Fashion’s Night Out website for a list of happenings in your city. Or if you’re rather not be out in the masses that night, there are a lot of shops that are hosting FNO online. We’re going to be sure to check out www.accessoriesartists.com and www.OleUnlimited.com— both carry eco-friendly accessory lines.

We look forward to hearing from you about your FNO festivities. Also stay tuned for our post-FNO fashion coverage.
