Some of us love a cup of coffee as a mid-afternoon treat, while others like (me!) depend on it to wake up in the morning. Whether you’re an avid coffee drinker like myself or not, you may appreciate another take on java – the DIY Coffee Facial Scrub. Just as your daily Cup of Jo can give you a wake up call, ground coffee beans can do the same thing for your skin, and best of all these ingredients can be found in your kitchen pantry. Why spend money on an expensive facial when you can just do it yourself?

There are a variety of different types of DIY coffee facial scrubs out there that you can make at home, with ingredients ranging from coffee grounds, olive oil, honey, lemon juice, cinnamon, brown sugar and/or cocoa powder. That’s the beauty of DIY – you can modify the facial to your own personal preferences or just go with what you have on hand without taking a trip to the store. Even the most basic facial scrub can deliver amazing results with minimal time or effort. I wanted to test out the power of the coffee facial scrub and I have to say, I loved the way it made my skin feel! The scrub I went with was basic and included only two ingredients – coffee grounds and olive oil. For those want to give this facial scrub a try, you can even take it a step further by repurposing your coffee grounds after you make a pot of coffee instead of wasting un-used grounds.

I know what you’re thinking–how can these two simple ingredients give your face a pick me up? Coffee grinds will naturally exfoliate your skin, meaning it will scrub away dead skin and leave you glowing. Coffee is also loaded with antioxidants and the caffeine creates a tightening effect, which will help tighten pores and remove excess oil from your face. Coffee grinds are also said to help reduce puffiness and swelling in the face due to it’s natural anti-inflammatory properties. Olive oil will help moisturize skin leaving it soft and smooth. This facial scrub is the perfect solution for summer skin that’s been exposed to too much sun and needs a pick me up, Plus, it’s smells delicious!

To make this facial scrub, simply combine 6 Tbsp. of coffee grounds with 4 Tbsp. of virgin olive oil and mix well. Take a small portion of the scrub and gently massage in a circular motion all over your face then rinse thoroughly with water. Whatever you don’t use you can store in a container in your fridge and it should last for a few weeks. Whenever your skin needs a pick me up, you can use this DIY coffee facial scrub for soft and glowing skin!
