With more and more people demanding sustainable products to help reduce their ecological footprint, the watch industry is no exception to the higher standards required to fulfill this goal. For quite some time now though, the watch industry has engaged in sustainable efforts, in fact, the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC), founded in 2005, is the world’s leading organization for the entire jewelry and watch industry, and it’s responsible for promoting, “standards that underpin people’s trust in the worldwide jewelry and watch supply chain.” RJC’s 2030 agenda demands effective collaborations between its members and partners in order to achieve the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Here are 4 eco-friendly watch brands to help you go green in 2021!

Citizen Vintage Sport

The Citizen’s eco-drive line is among the most well-known brands of solar-powered watches. They are designed to power the watch by converting natural and artificial light into energy. The technology, which was developed in the 1970s, allows the production of watches that never need a battery change, helping produced 10 million fewer watch batteries for the US market. Nordgreen Pioneer

From Nordgreen and Danish designer Jakob Wagner, this simplistic design consists of a minute and second dial, a stainless-steel case, and domed sapphire glass. It combines machine functionality with Scandinavian style, and by purchasing a Pioneer, you can help preserve 50 square-meters of the South American rainforest. The California brand not only produces sustainable eyewear, but they also craft a limited edition of watches for men paired with Swiss movements, stainless steel cases, and either nylon or American-made leather bands. The Wanderlust II model comes with a protective case made from recycled paper and is water-resistant up to 100m. Their prices are between $80-$100 and can be found here!

WeWood

This LA-based company creates trendy timepieces that, if you can guess from their name, are made out of wood. WeWood goes one step further than creating eco-friendly watches by using the proceeds to plant trees with American Forests and Trees For The Future. The rich colors and different shapes of these unisex watches make a real statement, like the Limited Edition WeWood Moon Brown watch pictured above.
