Crafty & Unique Home DIYs for Summertime

by Sofia

The do-it-yourself method has always been an incredibly creative and fun way to be crafty. We have always thought imagination, with a little determination, leads to multiple possibilities. Here at Eco18, we are giving you some examples of DIY for that spark of inspiration!

These are our Top & Trendy Summer DIY picks. Time has gone into picking these DIYs that seem reasonably easy to create and very purposeful–we know some DIYs are over-the-top, or just plain silly. This category is cool, green home projects. Some of these are quick-minute DIYs, while others are more of a Sunday Funday project. So grab your tools and get started!

Home Sweet Home

1.    Flower Window Box
A way to spruce up your home for the summer is by adding quaint, flowery window boxes. Look at your house and point out the windows in the front that could use some greenery. The tools you will need are a window box liner, brackets, wooden boards (unless you’d rather buy a wooden box), a drill, screws—all of which can be found at Home Depot! And flowers of course. Here is the detailed step-by-step process to really make your home look sweet:

2.     The Chalkboard Mug
Make any surface a chalkboard surface! Mugs, walls, signs, gifts, pots—the list feels endless. Chalk-able surfaces can make life more organized, and fun! Our chalk DIY pick is your own Chalkboard Mug. All you will need is a white mug, masking tape, chalkboard paint (can find in Home Depot, or other home good stores) and a paintbrush. Once you have all of this, simply tape around your mug, creating a straight line. Then, paint the entire mug under the tape! Paint a couple coats. Remove the tape and fix any line imperfection. Once that’s done, put your mug in the oven at 300°F for 30 minutes. Let it completely cool off after its out, grab a piece of chalk, and start doodling! (Dishwasher safe)

3.     Branch Necklace Holder
An earthy, simple, and cheap DIY! The cute and useful Branch necklace holder is original and easy to create—your necklaces are guaranteed to not get tangled! All you need is a branch from your backyard (a length of your desire), nails (this picture has 10, but you can add more), 2 D-rings, a hammer, and screwdriver. Start by picking the prettier side of the branch and hammer nails into the front about halfway and spaced out evenly. Then, screw in the D-rings into the back of the branch on each end. (See helpful D-ring picture—woo!) After that, measure the distance between the D-rings and use that measurement to place two nails on the wall. Then hang up your branch, and add your beautiful necklaces!

4.     Twig Candle Holder
Another earthy and rustic DIY is the twig candleholder. This one is a favorite of ours, and it can match your branch necklace holder! SImpley collect twigs from your back yard in short, but various lengths and grab a candleholder you no longer use. Get some crazy glue, and stick the twigs onto the holder to align around the entire candle. Beautiful! Do this to multiple candles to line up on a dresser, hallway table, or your coffee table.

5.     Decorate Your Starbucks Cup!
This Starbucks cup is GIY—glitter it yourself! For this craft, all you need is the Starbucks cup (can be found at their stores- if you already have one, perfect!) adhesive, and sponge brush or something to spread the glue. Unscrew the cups, paint the inner cup with a thin layer of glue, and sprinkle glitter. Make sure you cover all areas so there are no blank spots. Then leave it to dry, and put the inner cup back inside the outer cup. An adorable GIY that will catch everyone’s eye!
