Broiled Bananas: Never Tasted So Good

by Trish Weese

As my daughter gets older, it is getting harder and harder to pass off fruit as a “treat.”  She’s onto me, and while she loves strawberries, cantaloupe and grapes, she no longer falls for the “if you are a good girl, you can have some mango!” line like she did when she was three. I tried that a while ago, and she just looked at me like only she can, and replied “mom, mangos are GOOD for me, my teacher told me they are a muscle food. You WANT me to eat them!”

Well… this mama still has one trick up her sleeve. I have discovered a treat that is so tasty, even YOU will think you are eating something you shouldn’t. And it’s simple, quick, and makes minimal mess. Oh yeah… and it’s good for you, too!!

This is SO simple in fact, that it seems silly to even put it in recipe format, but here goes…

BROILED BANANAS

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar

Directions

  • Slice banana in half. lengthwise
  • Sprinkle each half with 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • Place under broiler for 5 – 7 minutes, until brown sugar has melted.

And that’s it!  Told you it was easy!

These are so tasty, almost like banana pudding or pie. You can get creative and add grapes, strawberries or other fruit and make a smiley face before serving it, as I did. I promise your kids are going to love it!

Bananas are rich in Vitamin A, iron and potassium, so this is one desert you can truly feel good about serving your family.
