Combating dry skin with your diet

…and keep it protected from the inside out.

First, let’s look at why the cold weather dries out skin. What’s one thing you can do effortlessly in the summer, no matter where you are? Sweat! Sweating is our body’s way of working to cool itself down—sweating opens up pores all over our body, releasing toxins. The action of opening up pores also helps facial oils work to rehydrate skin.

In colder weather, when you’re sweating less, you’re pores aren’t working as hard to release sweat and toxins. Instead, in harsh conditions your pores close up and become smaller, not letting the oils work their way through, and not allowing your body to rid itself of toxins as easily.

So, how can we keep our skin hydrated?

Hydrating Fruits and Vegetables

A rich moisturizing regimen should not just be about what goes on our skin, we need to eat

more water filled fruits and vegetables to hydrate from the inside. Fruits like: watermelon, apples, and grapes, and vegetables like: cucumbers and tomatoes will work to hydrate your skin just like water would. Plus you will get all the extra benefits of all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants

that are packed into these natural beauty foods.

Switching Up Your Diet

1. GET JUICING
Make a green juice that’s packed full of fruits and vegetables. Your skin will love the hydrating vitamins, minerals and water. Plus, it’s healthy for your body too!

Give this green juice recipe a try:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup spinach
  • 1 stalk celery
  • ½ fresh lemon juice
  • 2 green apples
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple
  • 1 bunch of parsely

Simply put all the ingredients in your juicer and add ice! If the flavor is a bit too pungent for your liking, you can easily add more lemon juice, or dilute with a little water.

2. GO NUTS

Filled with protein, a handful of nuts contain loads of vitamins, antioxidants and Omega-3’s, which are essential to keep skin from drying out and providing it with healthy, moisturizing oils.

3. FISH

Ever noticed how your skin glows after eating sushi, or a piece of salmon? That’s because fatty fish like salmon and tuna are filled with essential fatty acids your body—and skin—need to stay moisturized! Add oily fish to your diet at least two times a week and see the difference it makes to your skin.

After you’ve incorporated these three essentials into your diet, observe how it feels. Do you notice a difference? We sure do!
