Each month we ask a new eco-maven 18 questions about his or her life, occupation, and advice for other like-minded people. This month we connected with Corinne Morley, Brand Ambassador and beauty expert at Trilogy Skincare!
1. What is your name?
Corinne Morley
2.What is your occupation?
Brand Ambassador and in-house beauty expert at Trilogy
3.When did you become interested in living a greener lifestyle
I was fortunate to grow up with a Mum who loved ‘old natural’ remedies from nature– in many ways she was years ahead of her time and maybe it’s where I got my love of natural products from!
But without doubt, the turning point was having children. Children make you view everything in your life and the world around you differently.
4.Who/What inspires you to be more “green” in your life?
My children mostly! I want to do the right thing for their future but also teach them to be responsible citizens and appreciate nature. We lived in New Zealand for nine years, before returning to UK in 2015, and kiwis have a strong culture of being mindful of how we live. The kids also attended an ‘Enviro- school’ which included projects such as ‘beach clean-up’ and learning about waste and recycling.
It’s very inspiring when a young child tells you why we should turn the tap off when cleaning our teeth, or when they stop to pick up rubbish so it doesn’t get swept into the sea and choke the fish or turtles – how can you not support them and follow their example?!
5.Where on the “green scale” do you fall?
I try to do my bit, but haven’t turned into a fanatic (yet!) I re-use and recycle, and our household is mindful of waste. I use environmental friendly cleaning products and energy saving light bulbs and we turn electrical sockets off at the wall when they’re not in use so appliances aren’t using power for ‘stand-by’. I try to buy organic food, preferably local, and will choose fair-trade products when available.
I always read ingredient labels for food and personal care products – the fewer chemicals in our everyday living the better.
6.What are the most rewarding and most challenging parts of your job?
I’m extremely lucky to love almost every aspect of my work – not a fan of the paper work side! I love the beauty industry and have a passion for skincare. Having suffered with bad skin for several years and knowing the negative impact it can have, it’s very rewarding to be able to help other people with their skin. I travel a lot for my work and have a love-hate relationship with it It’s amazing to visit so many different parts of the world, but it can be very challenging for family life. Maintaining a good family/ work balance is challenging for most working-women.
7.As a beauty expert do you feel that “greener” beauty products are effective?
As with most products, whether natural or non-natural there are different standards. It’s all about the formulations, which make them effective or not so effective.
At Trilogy, we have always believed you don’t have to sacrifice quality for natural. We’re committed to producing high performance, natural skincare which delivers results you can see and feel with the same level of performance, if not better, than most other brands.
8.Where do you turn for your news?
The Internet for up to date information, but I still enjoy a lazy Sunday with the newspapers – still a stable part of British life!
9.What is your favorite meal?
Anything that starts or finishes with chocolate.
10.What is one environmental change you vow to make in this year?
Reduce the amount of plastic even further. Having attended a seminar for ‘closing the tap on plastics in our oceans’ last year and hearing more about the impact of plastic, I’ve made a real commitment to re-use and reduce plastic as much as possible.
11.If you could trade places with one person from any time in history (past or present) for one day—who would it be and why?
I’m going to choose something very self-indulgent! I’m a huge Liverpool Football Club fan, so it’s got to be Liverpool FC Manager for a day! And on the day Liverpool won the European Cup for the 5th time in an exhilarating, nail-biting final, it sends shivers down my spine just thinking about the roller-coaster of emotions!
12.What do you think is impeding the process of a cleaner and greener environment?
We need sustainability and environmental topics to be ‘top of mind’ with our Governments and the will to make changes happen more quickly. We need our ‘Authorities’ to make it easier for us to participate in good habits – for example, recycling options in all towns. Education is key. It’s important that our children are aware of the impact we have on the environment and that they learn from an early age how to live as sustainably as they can. It should become the rule, not the exception.
13.What advice would you give to someone who is struggling to become more eco-friendly, whether it be due to money or time?
Everyone can play a part in respecting our planet. Little things add up to make a big difference – even simply your choice of beauty and personal care products.
14.If there was one industry/product that you could make more eco-friendly, what would it be?
A solution for plastic – imagine a truly bio-degradable plastic!
15.Where in the world would you most like to be right now?
I’m dreaming of a holiday with my family on a beautiful Greek Island
16.What is the best book you have read recently?
Sad to say I haven’t read much recently at all, but last book I enjoyed was Steven Gerrard My Story (I did say I’m a huge Liverpool Fan!)
17.What makes you cringe?
Listening or watching myself on video – I don’t sound or look like I think I do!
18.What do you want your legacy to be?
I want to be remembered for making a difference – I live by a motto ‘try to leave things a little better than you found them’ and of course, my children!
