Oscar Night Fashion Round Up

by Jon Porcasi

Every year the Oscars come and go, but one thing that always leaves a lingering impression is the fashion. This year was no exception, so we decided to create a roundup of our top 5 looks from the ceremony.

1. Laura Dern: This actress has been a red carpet staple since she was 7, the age when she attended her first ceremony with her mother. Not usually a risk taker, she decided to go for it this year in a showstopping metallic gown by Alberta Ferretti, complete with an effortless blowout, and jewelry by Bulgari featuring the color turquoise in honor of the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE Initiative. LUNG FORCE, which is nationally presented by CVS Health, works to make lung cancer in women a public health priority, drive policy change, education and increase research funding.

2. Emma Stone: This red carpet risk taker always ends up hitting out of the park, and last night was no exception. Emma came to the ceremony in custom long-sleeved Elie Saab Couture, completed with a dramatic open back. We loved this shade of chartreuse against her complexion and red hair, channeling old Hollywood glamour.
3. Cate Blanchett: Last year’s best actress winner decided to have a bit more fun on the red carpet this year. This black Maison Marigiela Couture gown, created by John Galliano provides the perfect canvas to highlight our favorite piece of jewelry of the night, a bold turquoise floral bib necklace by Tiffany & Co. Her styling is elegant and ease at it’s best.
4. Lupita Nyong’o: This red carpet darling, always manages to make her way on every best dressed list. At yesterday’s ceremony she sported a custom Calvin Klein Collection pearl and ivory beaded dress. The keyhole detail and unique cut, was one of the things that made this dress truly special-and close up you can appreciate all the intricate pearl detailing that made up this gown.
5. Rosamund Pike: Rounding out our list is the “Gone Girl” best actress nominee, who decided to bring back old time glamour in this gorgeous crimson Givenchy Couture gown. With an hourglass figure and corset detailing, it was truly a vintage inspired moment, reminiscent of the 1930s.

* Eco-Shout Out: Gina Rodriguez: The “Jane The Virgin” actress decided to make a statement by wearing a creation made for the “Red Carpet Green Dress Challenge” which was started by James Cameron’s wife Suzy Musing. Every year the challenge enlists one male and one female celebrity to help spread a message of eco-friendly, sustainably made, high fashion by wearing a sustainable frock to the Oscars. Gina wore a gorgeous cobalt gown was made out of sustainable silk by up-and-coming designer Manon Gabard.
