Natural Pet Products Round Up

by Melody Morrow

A hot summer afternoon in NYC was spent perusing tabletops filled with sophisticated toys for cats and dogs, which proves how the pet market has matured–it’s not your grandmother’s sock toy anymore! Petting some pooches was really fun too.

The companies who exhibited were there to tell their stories as well as showcase their products for both human and pet consumption. I was very pleasantly surprised to see many of the products being displayed offer a variety of green and sustainable elements.

High-End Pet Highlights:

PET P.L.A.Y.

Based in San Francisco, PET Play’s very grand chandelier bed and best seller is not only a place for doggie dreams, but a piece of art I would add to my living room (even without a dog) to give it more panache. It is made with eco-friendly fill manufactured from certified-safe recycled plastic bottles. Their pug Momo however, was really the star of the show. Check out http://www.petplay.com for Momo and more.

HONEST PET PRODUCTS, LLC

This inspirational start up from Green Bay, Wisconsin, offer toys, accessories and grooming products for cats and dogs produced and packaged in the darkest shade of “green” by disabled and impoverished adults throughout the world. Their logo, True to our Pets, True to our Planet, True to our People really speaks volumes about their company.

Honest Pet Product’s Eco-Fetcher is shaped like a Frisbee, made with hemp by disabled adults in Wisconsin and built using an eco-felt core.  Their Eco-Pouncer for cats is made from natural sheep’s wool and yak hair. Two dollars of every purchase helps eliminate poverty and protect snow leopards in Mongolia. Your dog or cat would be proud to own one. You can find them at http://honestpetproducts.com.

UNLEASHED LIFE

A three-year old company from Missouri that designs fabulous doggie dining bowls.  Using their artistry, I wouldn’t mind setting a place at the dining room table for my dog.  Their bowls are not just for eating; it’s a lifestyle piece, which gets a licking, but remains sustainable. Unleashed Life’s Acacia Dog Bowls are plantation grown and made from renewable acacia wood. The Bowery Dog Bowls are recycled aluminum and finished in aged nickel, giving it the essence of hard industrial and urban design. Unleashed Life’s bowls are not only very chic, but I think they can make dog food taste better! http://www.unleashedlife.com/home.php

Other notables on the scene were the PogoSplash Slap Happy Floating Toy from Premier Pet Products in “life vest” orange and free of stuffing, WellBites Soft and Chewy All Natural Treats and FURminator’s new paraben and chemical free deShedding conditioner.

Stay tuned as we continue to unveil new, green products for the hairiest members of the family!
