5 Ways to Bring Wellness into Your Workday

by Sara White

With an inbox full of unread emails, demanding deadlines, and chunks of your day blocked out for meetings – it can feel almost impossible to keep your health, lifestyle and mentality in-check, especially while sitting in a cubicle all day! Though it may not seem like it throughout the busy workweek, prioritizing your wellness is what’s always most important at the end of the day. Here are 5 tips to help bring some wellness into your workday!

1. Emails You Can Look Forward To

If your work pretty much revolves around writing, sending, and keeping up with what feels like hundreds of emails every minute – why not start your day with an email you can really look forward to? I personally love reading The Skimm every morning once I get to the office. It helps me catch up on what’s going on in the world while giving me some time to myself to read up on interesting topics and prep myself for the day. There are tons of cool newsletters to subscribe to – some others include PRSUIT, which is focused on self-improvement and positive thinking, and Coinzy, for those of you who want to know the latest in the cryptocurrency world! Whatever your interests may be, this is a great way to help you get some you-time before the chaos sets in.

2. Stay Hydrated!

We all know we’re supposed to be drinking 8 glasses of water a day…but who has time for that when there’s coffee? While this thought crosses my mind several times a day… being dehydrated actually depreciates your wellbeing more than you think. Headaches, dizziness, dry skin, and feeling tired or sleepy are all symptoms are being dehydrated. Even our mood and our ability to focus can be affected by mild dehydration. To fight this, keep a reusable water bottle on your desk at all times – keeping it within your vision won’t let you forget that, in between all the caffeine, our bodies and minds need some H20, too!

3. Mini-Walks

Whether it’s a five-minute walk around your floor or a twenty-minute stroll outside during your lunch break, getting up and moving around will help you get the headspace you need throughout the workday. Exposing yourself to a different environment and getting your blood flowing is one of the best ways to clear your mind, de-stress, and help you tackle your daily priorities. Make sure to take some moments for yourself, it’s important!

4. Always Keep a Healthy Snack Nearby

Hanger is no joke. We all know the feeling- our blood sugar drops, we begin feeling a little shaky, and suddenly a tidal wave of irritability floods over us. Not only does this affect your energy levels and may ruin your mood, but it may also set you back on the progress you could be making in your workday. Before your glucose levels drop, keep a healthy snack nearby to help combat the hanger. Combining produce with protein, such as apples with almonds or bananas with walnuts, is a great way to keep your blood sugar, mood, productivity and wellness intact!

5. Keep a Clean and Tidy Workspace

One of the best ways to declutter your mind is by decluttering your desk and your surrounding workspace. Having a desk covered with stacks of papers, pens, old water bottles and miscellaneous objects may be overwhelming you more than you think- and may be making you feel as though you’re not in control over your day-to-day tasks. Working in an atmosphere that is tidy and organized will add a stronger sense of clarity and structure to your workday – allowing you to be clear-minded as you tackle the day’s objectives!
