A Handful Of Ways To Lead A Happier Life!

by Guest Writer

We’re all on a continuous journey to lead happier and more fulfilling lives. But what is it that actually makes us happy? We make choices everyday that impact our happiness, some choices that we probably wouldn’t think would. We have put together a list of 5 things you can do, to help make your everyday life, a happier one!

1.    Surround yourself with positive & happy people

It’s only natural that your mood and emotional energy feeds from those with whom you spend time. Make sure you surround yourself with positive, supportive and happy people and try to limit the time you spend with negative and miserable people. Negative people will be quick to weigh you down and take the focus away from your goals and well-being.

2.    Find a balance between your work & personal life

It’s one that we all struggle with, but it’s important to find a healthy balance between your work and personal life. Having a work life balance ensures that you have control over your life and sees that you’re making time for the things that make you happy such as your friends, family and relationships, as well as focusing on working towards your professional goals. Start by drawing the line between work and home, understand that the time you spend at home relaxing and re-energizing is as important as the hours you spend in the office.

3.    Be Generous

Offer a hand to those around you and try to volunteer when you can. We can all afford to be a little bit more generous, whether it’s helping a friend to move house or volunteering at your local charity. Helping others inspires gratitude and makes you feel good about your actions. It also helps to put your life and personal issues into perspective, and may make your issues seem not so significant.

4.    Look After Yourself

Regular exercise, a healthy diet and proper sleep are key to building a happier life. Eating a healthy diet provides nutrients that help our bodies to function. Exercise helps to keep us in shape and helps comfort depression and enhances our moods by releasing key endorphins. Lastly, a good night’s sleep helps to stabilize our mood and energy levels throughout the day. So, make a point of trying to do at least 60 minutes of exercise everyday, eat a balanced diet and get between 7-9 hours of sleep every night.

5.    Set goals and work towards them

Goals help to turn dreams into a reality. Set realistic personal and professional goals for yourself that you have to work towards. If you have always dreamt of speaking a foreign language, take lessons. If you have always dreamt of running a marathon, start training or if you’re trying for that new job, look at the job description and reflect on what steps you can take to get it. By setting and working towards our goals, it stimulates our minds and gives us a sense of meaning and purpose. Once our goals have been achieved, it brings a sense of accomplishment and helps to build our confidence.
