It’s Men’s Health week all week long. While this week may be a great excuse to get tested and to spread the word about men’s health issues, it’s also important to remember to make the proper lifestyle changes to support your health all year long. Here are five easy steps every man should do to support their health naturally.
Eat more berries
Strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries are high in vitamin C and antioxidants. They may also help support healthy prostate function. Try adding some berries to your breakfast or morning smoothie to make sure you are eating enough.
Get enough Omega-3s
Having enough omega-3 in your diet can help lower cholesterol, lower high blood pressure and can help boost prostate health. Fish like salmon and sardines are great sources of omegas, but if you aren’t a fish fan try walnuts or adding a natural supplement to your daily routine.
Reduce alcohol consumption
Alcohol consumption can lead to excessive belly fat which puts men at greater risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure. Try reducing the amount of alcoholic beverages you drink per week and selecting beverages lower in calories and sugar like light beers when you do drink.
It is important to remember to stay active, especially in the warm summer months. Staying active is easy to do and doesn’t require a gym membership. You can go for a 20 minute walk each day or do yardwork, just be sure to hydrate and wear sunscreen if you plan to be outdoors for an extended period of time.
Avoid foods that can irritate and harm the prostate
Spicy foods, processed foods, artificial sweeteners, sugary foods, dairy products, red meat, and fried foods can all worsen the symptoms of prostate issues. Instead, try to eat more natural and unprocessed foods like organic fruits and vegetables and lean meats.
