5 Songs About the Environment

This image does a great job of illustrating everything that music about the environment is not. While I am all for music for your plants, I also like my music loud and varying. Musicians have the power to get us thinking about certain issues, and the environment is one that some pretty popular artists have taken aim it. Here’s five of our favorites!

Deadmau5 – Animal Rights

It’s only natural that well-known cat lover Deadmau5 would title a track after his favorite friend. The lyrics? There are none, obviously.

Jamiroquai – Virtual Insanity

One of those songs that you hate to love, but you catch yourself listening every once in a while. There’s a certain irony that we are blogging about this virtual insanity that has definitely increased this song’s release in 1996.

MGMT – Kids

Control yourself
Take only what you need from it
A family of trees wantin’
To be haunted.

Midnight Oil – Beds Are Burning

As a fellow Australian, I had to include this one. The song highlights much of the plight endured by the Australian Aborigines during the middle of the 20th century. It’s a moving tribute, which has been covered by many subsequent acts since.

John Mayer – Waiting on the World to Change

He’ll probably be waiting a while for this one.. In the meantime, keep singing!

It just goes to show that not all environmental songs are played in yoga class or sung by nappy headed musicians at far flung music festivals. We do like those songs, too, though!
