It’s much easier said than done to exercise while away for work or on vacation. But that’s why we’re here, right? To tell you how it’s done. Eco18 breaks it down for you, so all you have to do is… actually get out there and do it!
Be Prepared – You have to pack workout clothes – and don’t forget the proper shoes. No excuse is easier to go with than “I forgot my running shoes, so I can’t run today.” A brief packing list – bring all that apply:
- gym clothes
- athletic shoes
- Bathing suit and goggles
- iPod and headphones
Bright Start – You must exercise early in the day. Let’s face it, if you put it off, you probably won’t ever get around to it.
Drink plenty of fluids – It’s very easy to get dehydrated when you are always on the run, traveling around and/or drinking lots of alcohol!
Lodging – Try and stay at hotels that have gyms (or pools if you’re a swimmer). That way you won’t have to go as far.
Watch what you eat – Yes, you’re on vacation. But do you want everyone to know you were on vacation just by looking at your waistline? You don’t have to diet, but just be a little mindful and you won’t be headed home with (as many) regrets.
Explore – Combine exercise with exploring the main street or an interesting neighborhood and it won’t seem like such a chore.
Strictly business – treat exercising like an important business meeting. You won’t miss it now, will you?
Travel smart – Airport food courts and airline food may be your demise. Pick up a salad, some nuts or a snack bar while at the terminal instead.
Branch out – The world is your playground… at least while you are working out! Do pull-ups on a branch, dips on a picnic table, hurdles in a parking lot or generally take on any obstacle.
Body Weight – If you don’t feel like leaving your room or working out in public, try one of these great bodyweight workouts – amateur or beast.
