HOW TO MAKE A SMOOTHIE BOWL

by

After a sporadic and crazy Winter, Spring is here and the sun is finally shining! And you know what that means—warmer weather and days in the sun with smoothies! Or, smoothie bowls to be more specific. An Instagram phenomenon, smoothie bowls are all the rage, and though they may look intricate and artful, they’re actually incredibly easy to make. Here’s a quick run-down on how to make a smoothie bowl that is sure to be a hit with your taste buds:

The key to a good, thick smoothie bowl is to be very stingy with the liquid. Instead,, your main focus should be lots of frozen fruit. The best base to use is typically frozen banana since it turns into a thick ice cream consistency when you stick it in the food processor. You can also use frozen mango or frozen berries. Banana is just a classic. After popping your main fruit ingredient into the blender, you can add any other fruit that you desire and can pop in any “extras” that you’re in the mood for. To make your bowl super nutrient dense, we recommend spinach, maca powder, flax or chia seeds, beetroot powder, or protein powder. Once you’ve added in the extras, start adding in a tiny bit (we’re talking a tablespoon or two) of nut-based milk, or regular milk, at a time, and start the food processor. This can be done in a blender as well, but it may take longer and may require more liquid—meaning it won’t be as thick and creamy. And that’s pretty much it! All you have to do next is pop it in a bowl and top it with whatever you’re craving. Great options for toppings are granola, cereal, chocolate chips etc.
