Why Fall is Our Favorite Season

by Juliette Baumann

It is no surprise that Fall is our nation’s favorite season. Unlike any other season, Fall brings us new possibilities and experiences. It’s not hectic like spring, overly hot like summer and freezing, like winter. The crisp air and autumn leaves combined with clear, bright sunny days are perfect for outdoor activities, wherever you are – exploring the city, or visiting country towns to see the magnificent Fall foliage. Nature offers us many reasons to love this season—

apple picking, finding the perfect pumpkin, hayrides and walking through the fallen leaves, even the air smells different.

Let’s not forget it’s also pickling season, a time to take the abundance of all the freshly grown produce and bottle it for the months to come.  Pickling is a great family or solo activity that gets you outside heading to your local farmers market or picking patch. Not only are those delicious cucumbers, string beans, onions and cauliflowers great for pickling, but the berries and fruits can be frozen to make delightful holiday pies.

And, is there anything better than Fall fashions?

After months of hot, humid weather and wearing the lightest clothing just to stay cool, Fall offers a wealth of fashion choices. From sweaters to tights, jackets and pants,  the possibilities are endless. Layering your favorite items that have been hidden away, rediscovering a whole wardrobe of possibilities,  not to mention the accessories – scarfs, gloves, boots, and coats, there are so many ways to have fun with fashion!

Fall heralds the start of the holiday season, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, bringing lots of opportunities to celebrate and enjoy all the activities each one offers.   Halloween decorations have been appearing for weeks! No matter what age, people jump at the opportunity to eat as much candy as possible in their costume of choice. Halloween is the one night of the year where you can feel like a kid again, and what’s better than that?

When the sugar coma wears off, Fall transitions right into Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving means spending quality time with family and friends, overeating and taking time to reflect on what you are thankful for. Undoubtedly one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving always feels like home. It is a great time to catch up with those you love, even if it means answering a million questions about your personal life. “No, I still don’t have a boyfriend, Uncle Roger.”

The weather, foods, fashion and upcoming holidays are just a few reasons to love fall because the list can go on forever. Fall is the perfect time to make positive changes surrounded by your loved ones and great weather.
