What are Adaptogens? And How Do They Help The Body Heal

by eco18

Adaptogens are non-toxic plants that are marketed as helping the body resist stressors of all kinds, whether physical, chemical or biological. These herbs and roots have been used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic healing traditions, but they’re having a renaissance today. Today we are seeing them at popular stores and supermarkets like Whole Foods and other natural shops. They are great to add to smoothies, broths, pancakes and more!

The following adaptogenic herbs are the most popular and ones we’ve tried:

Ashwagandha:  a potent, safe, and corrective superherb that helps protect your body from the damaging effects of stress. It helps enhance focus and mental stamina, reduce irritability and stress-related carb cravings.

Schisandra: An adaptogenic herb, Schisandra is traditionally used to support your body’s capacity to handle stress, sustain energy and concentration. It is also known to support healthy liver function, which can reduce the signs of stress and inflammation on the skin.

Mucuna:   a potent, safe, and corrective superherb that helps protect your body from the damaging effects of stress. A cold water extract, our Mucuna contains L-dopa, the immediate precursor to dopamine, a neurotransmitter that ignites the brain’s pleasure centers.

Reishi: Reishi is a powerful brain tonic, long used to energize and enhance mood, and support concentration. An adaptogenic mushroom, Reishi is traditionally used to help the body’s capacity to handle stress and support a healthy immune system response.

Please note: You should talk to your doctor before adding adaptogens to your diet or routine. A 2018 study found that common herbal supplements can interact negatively with prescription medications.
