No Pet Store Puppies!

by Patty

Today is No Pet Store Puppies Day and we wanted to take a minute to talk about puppy mills and where to adopt your next pet without having to support one!  Pet stores are generally filled with puppies from puppy mills – where they and their parents have been living in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions for years on end.  Many of these mills have questionable care and breeding standards and are out for as much profit as possible.  This means that the well being of these living creatures is last on the list of the breeders, which is unacceptable.  Together we can stop these cruelty by pledging not to patron these stores and put puppy mills out of business.

Are you looking to add another member to your family?  Great!  Below we’ve outlined some resources for pet adoption because there are hundreds of thousands of loving dogs that just need a great home.

1. Find your local shelter

Most towns or counties have a local shelter or rescue program you can participate in.  Do a little research to find one.

2. Visit your local PetSmart or Petco on a weekend

Usually these stores have pet adoption days where they bring adoptable pets to the store to meet potential families.  Just be careful because it can be dangerous as in you’ll wan to take them all home!

3. Petfinder.com

This site is the perfect combination of the first two options.  You can set parameters like “small breed” or “good with children” to find the perfect new addition to your family!

Adopting a pet can be an incredibly rewarding experience.  Have you ever adopted a pet?
