Cold and flu season is here. Before you reach for any over counter medications, try these natural remedies to help you kick that cold and keep you feeling good all winter.

Oregano Oil
Oregano oil is often referred to as nature’s antibiotic due to its antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and anti-parasitic properties. It works best when taken at the first sign of a cold and can be taken in liquid or capsule form. Be sure to purchase oregano oil that has a concentration of carvacrol of 70% or greater. It tastes horrible but does the trick. Oregano oil is also an anti-inflammatory which makes it great for reliving congestion. Simply add a few drops to a cup filled with hot water and inhale.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar also has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It has an alkaline effect in your body which helps keep your immune system running properly. Start drinking a tablespoon of it at the first sign of a cold and repeat several times a day until the symptoms subside. Mix it with organic lemon juice for an added boost of immunity.

Turmeric
Turmeric has been used in India for thousands of years as a medicinal herb due to its antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties. It can be taken in capsule form or added to a delicious immune boosting beverage like golden milk.
Studies have shown that almost 70 percent of our immune system is found in the gut flora, and that taking probiotics can help reduce your risk of getting sick. The key is to take probiotics as a supplement consistently during cold and flu season to keep your immune system in tip-top shape.
